SN3308 Primary Navigation Display Support DownloadsSoftware OverviewThe software in the SN3308 Primary Navigation Display is upgradable in the field, without the need for removing the unit from the panel or returning it to the factory. This is done by copying the new software from this website to a Windows laptop PC, and then connecting the laptop to a dataload jack in the aircraft. A data loader program included with the download runs on the laptop and communicates with the SN3308, sending it the new software and ensuring that it arrived safely. Downloading the new software from this website results in a single file being placed on your PC, known as a self-extracting archive. This file will fit on a single floppy disk, and it should be copied to the laptop PC which will be used for the upgrade. Running this file (by double-clicking it in Windows Explorer) will create two new files: an uploader program and the new SN3308 software file itself. With the SN3308 powered up as usual, the laptop is connected to the dataload jack using a cable provided by the avionics installer. The uploader program is run on the laptop, and the user specifies the name of the new SN3308 software file. The uploader program transfers the file, the SN3308 resets, and the process is complete. Note that while no logbook entry or other paperwork is required, this software upgrade should only be performed by a certified repair station to ensure continued compliance with the SN3308's TSO. System Software vs. Map DatabaseThe SN3308 contains two separate software programs:
Because the map is supplemental to the SN3308, IFR certification is usually not affected by having an out-of-date map database. The SN3308 system software may be downloaded from this website at no charge. However, to ensure continued airworthiness of the SN3308 and compliance with its TSO, the system software may only be loaded from a PC into an SN3308 by a certified repair station. The SN3308 map database may be purchased from this website with an on-line credit card transaction. The map database may be loaded from a PC into an SN3308 by either an avionics shop or an end-user. |
