AEA establishes scholarship fund in honor of Chuck Freeland
Instead of trying to talk about technical or sales topics this month, I have chosen to reflect back on the loss of a very dear friend to many of us. Chuck Freeland and I were best friends for every bit of three decades and I believe our initial meeting was way back when he was a Regional Sales Manager for 3M Stormscope. He was one person on the job and quite another after work. Once befriended, Chuck would cut off his right arm for you and then ask how much of the left one you needed. We had the ability to be hardnosed at work when needed and then forget it all over a cold beer at the end of the day. It’s a quality that few possess and one that Chuck mastered.
He never learned how to just sit around and do nothing but instead was non-stop doing all the things he loved to do. Always a project, a new opportunity, a new fishing hole, a new car to work on and always an exciting place to fly just to name a few.
His wife Debi has set up a Scholarship with the AEA to be awarded annually by Debi for a young aspiring student to be used specifically for flight training. Chuck would most certainly agree with this and it’s a way that all of us can contribute to keeping his memory alive. If you have it in your heart, please mail in a contribution, no matter the size, to not only help a deserving student but also to honor our dear friend.
