NewsSandel TAWS A Hit With Dash 6 OperatorsVista, CA (April 27, 2004)-Following on the successful certification of the Sandel ST3400 TAWS/RMI for the deHavilland DHC-6 Twin Otter, Sandel Avionics has announced recent orders for more than 50 of its TAWS systems by Dash 6 operators across the U.S. and Canada. Initial installations were performed by Rocky Mountain Aircraft of Calgary, Alberta, which operates its own fleet of Dash 6 aircraft, all of which will be equipped with the Sandel TAWS. "This was the most straightforward installation of any Terrain Awareness System we have installed," noted Tim Shaw, Rocky Mountain's avionics manager. "Product support from Sandel was excellent," he concluded. The Sandel ST3400 TAWS/RMI is a compact, affordable TAWS solution that offers full FAA compliance for Class A operations in a stand-alone, one-box system designed for compatibility with virtually all analog and digital aircraft types. Its Class B counterpart is the most cost-effective TAWS solution available, exceeding the minimum requirements for FAA compliance with a full-time terrain display. Configured in a 3-ATI format for easy, drop-in cockpit installation, the ST3400 incorporates a TAWS computer and crisp, clear flat-panel display to offer TAWS warning functions, topographic mapping capability, and even runway and waypoint overlays. Though no longer in production, the twin-turboprop, STOL DHC-6 is still a popular aircraft for regional airline and utility transport applications. Specializing in DHC-6 maintenance and leasing, Rocky Mountain Aircraft has more than 20 years' experience in aircraft support, and is a Recognized Maintenance Facility (RMF) for Pratt & Whitney Canada's PT6 and JT15D engine models.
