LAPD selects Sandel's SN3308 EHSI for primary pilot display

Vista, California - June 30, 2000 - The Los Angeles Police Department, Air Support Division, recently took delivery of two new Eurocopter AS350-B2's outfitted with Sandel SN3308 Electronic EHSI's. The SN3308 EHSI will be the pilots primary navigation instrument and interfaces with the following equipment: GPS1, UPSAT 360 GPS providing primary GPS data and flight plans: GPS2, Aerocomputer LE-3000 which allows the input of a specific street address and creates a user waypoint on the Sandel for “direct-to” navigation: NAV1, KX155 Nav/Comm providing VOR/GS and DME data. “The Sandel HSI gives our pilot a single point perspective of the complete navigational situation on one screen which greatly enhances our situational awareness and improves safety,” said Don Reuser, Chief Pilot for LAPD.

The current contract with Eurocopter calls for an additional 6 ships configured with these options.

The SN3308 ColorMapä combines the functions of an HSI, RMI, Marker Beacon and GPS annunciators, moving map, and more, all on a brilliant color display. Using new display technology, the 3” instrument provides a practical viewing area that equals larger and more expensive 4” EFIS systems.
