NewsSandel Announces TCAS Interface for ST3400 TAWSVista, California, October 6, 2003....Sandel Avionics announced today product enhancements to its popular ST3400 Terrain Awareness and Warning System (TAWS) to now display traffic and resolution advisory (TA/RA) information from TCAS I and II systems. Now pilots can view real time traffic information as well as detailed terrain maps on the full color display of the ST3400. Initial applications will include the Honeywell CAS 81T and CAS 67AT TCAS II systems, and the Goodrich TCAS791T TCAS I system. Availability will be in January, 2004. "We are excited about offering the capability to show TCAS information on the high resolution display of the ST3400," said Gerry Block, President of Sandel. "This further demonstrates the versatility of the ST3400. Corporate and airline fleets will now be able to replace older, unreliable TCAS displays with state of the art technology and provide compliance with the upcoming TAWS mandate in one step." The ST3400 is a self-contained TAWS computer integrated into a 3ATI display that meets TSO C151b for both Class A and Class B TAWS requirements. The versatile ST3400 can display terrain maps, topographic maps, navigational waypoint maps, function as an electronic RMI, and now serve as an integrated TCAS display. The basic ST3400 has a list price of $34,500 in Class A configuration and $19,950 in Class B configuration. The FAA has required operators of Part 91, Part 135 and Part 121 turbine-powered aircraft to equip their aircraft with TAWS by March 31, 2005 to reduce the occurrence of Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT) accidents, the largest cause of passenger fatalities in aviation. Sandel Avionics Inc., a privately held company in Vista, California, specializes in providing compact integrated display systems for General Aviation, Business Aviation, and Airlines.
