NewsCirrus Design Selects Sandel SN3308 EHSI as Standard Equipment in its SR22(B) AircraftSandel's Innovative, Easy-to-Fly Electronic Navigation Display to be Part of Factory-Installed Avionics Package in Cirrus' New, More Powerful Composite Aircraft LONG BEACH, CA -- October 20, 2000 -- Sandel Avionics, an innovator in advanced cockpit display technologies for commercial, business and general aviation, and Cirrus Design Corporation, a manufacturer of general aviation aircraft, will integrate Sandel's SN3308 Electronic Horizontal Situation Indicator (EHSI) into the standard avionics suite in Cirrus' newly announced SR22 single-engine aircraft (B package). The announcement was made at the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) Annual Exposition in Long Beach, CA. The Sandel SN3308 is the only electronic HSI that fits in the three-inch panel cutouts found in most general aviation aircraft. It is a TSO and STC-approved full-color primary navigation display that serves as an HSI, RMI, moving map and Stormscope¬ display. The SN3308's patent-pending three-inch edge-to-edge display technology provides a practical screen viewing area that equals larger and more expensive four-inch multi-function and EFIS displays. "Sandel is known for its superior display technology that improves situational awareness and makes it easier to fly the airplane," said Alan Klapmeier, Cirrus president and CEO. "Cirrus is committed to delivering leading-edge avionics and instrumentation to minimize cockpit workload and give pilots all the power they need to operate in today's complex IFR environment. This is why we selected the Sandel SN3308 as standard equipment for the SR22 B model. Announced this week at the AOPA Expo, the Cirrus SR22 is equipped with a 310-hp Teledyne Continental engine, cruises at 180 knots at 75% power, climbs at 1,300 feet per minute at sea level, has a long-range cruise of more than 1,000 nautical miles and a useful load of 1,150 pounds. The all-electric SR22B does not require a vacuum system (dual alternator / dual battery), and thus the all-electronic Sandel SN3308 EHSI is a perfect primary navigation device for the SR22B. "Cirrus Design and Sandel Avionics make ideal partners because we're both part of the new generation of young, energetic companies creating exciting new products that are revitalizing the general aviation industry," said Gerry Block, CEO of Sandel Avionics. "Relationships like this between technology innovators will help make personal and business aviation safer, less complex, and more affordable."
