If you upgraded a customer’s Garmin 400/500 series receiver to WAAS and want to display vertical guidance and couple the autopilot to the approach, the following is the correct configuration for both the Sandel and Garmin units.

SN3500/4500 GPS maintenance page #7 and/or #8

Garmin GNS430 (ARINC) for GNS430/530 or
Garmin GNS500 (ARINC) for Garmins without VOR/ILS
Annunciator = Serial
Lateral Deviation = Serial
Vertical Deviation = Serial
Vertical Enable = “Serial” for SN3500 or “Vertical Deviation Flag” for SN4500
OBS Cal = 0 degrees
ARINC-429 = High speed or Low speed depending on Garmin configuration
Approach Activate = Annunciator In (This selection monitors ARINC 429 label #261. When the Approach goes active the Sandel will pass a discrete low out of P2-27 FCS ILS Energize so the Autopilot can couple to the GPS approach)

Garmin 400/500 Series Main ARINC 429 configuration page

IN 1 and/or 2 = Low, Sandel EHSI
OUT = Low or High Gamma 429 Graphics w/Int
SDI = LNAV 1 or LNAV 2 (Depends on install)
VNAV = Enable labels
