Load Resistor Requirements When interfacing Navigation Receivers to Sandel Primary Navigation Displays

When interfacing a navigation receiver to the analog input port of a Sandel Primary Navigation Display you may need to add a parallel 1k ohm load resistor across the Glideslope and Nav Flag +/- outputs of the navigation receiver to meet the receiver system load requirements.

Sandel Primary displays provides no load to the navigation receiver. The power on load is around 60k ohms. With this high impedance the receiver cannot complete the flag circuit and the Sandel Primary Display will always show a valid flag.

Most navigation receiver’s flag circuit requires at least one parallel 1k ohm load and can drive up to 5 parallel 1k ohm loads.

As always check the installation instructions for the interfaced receiver and read the signal characteristics table provided in the Sandel Primary Navigation Display install manual.
